| Sigma 8mm f4 EX Circular Fisheye | |||||||
|
September 23, 2003 Sigma's 8mm circular fisheye lens can capture 180 degree view in all directions on a regular 35mm film. But how do the images look on DSLR's which do not have full frame sensors? Below are some images from Canon 1D and Canon 10D. I've also included images using Canon's 16-35mm lens for comparison. All images were taken from the same spot. This is how it would look on a 35mm film camera. The image is 22.08mm in diameter, filling only 63% of the frame. The lens comes with an adapter ring which is supposed to be removed when shooting the lens in order to avoid vignetting. But, as you can below, on a 1D with the circular ring attached, it produces a nice circular image as it does on a 35mm film. On a 10D, without the adapter ring attached, the image almost covers the full width of the sensor. Also, due to the larger multiplier factor, the lens covers slightly smaller angle of view on the 10D as it does on the 1D.
